Local Graffiti artist and Occupy movement enthusiast, Joel Richardson had a vision, to take his celebrated Suitman Wall Mural , which was listed as one of five must see murals in the city by Now Mag and bring it to life in August 2012, birthing his take on the financial revolution.

SUITMAN CREW ON THE WAY TO MOB MEDITATING

Joel’s instructions for that day were for all  of us to show up in suits and to mob meditate in the heart of the financial district for 197 seconds .  We were asked to focus collectively on peace, harmony, justice and equality for all towards the finance industries elite. For the 99% to spark an awakening in the hearts of the 1% in suits and the images were captured by world renowned celebrity photographers Viliam Hbrubovcak and Jolie Fejer and were covered in the Torontoist.

The images from the Suitman movement have been turned into a clothing line, cuff-links and various pieces that debut at GreenShag Bespoke Clothier tonight (670 Queen Street West) .  The beautiful thing about this project is that Joel’s team partnered up with the Inspirations program– a social enterprise project that provides a creative space for marginalized, underprivileged  women to participate in meaningful self employment. The women were paid to use their skills and sewed the images onto the menswear clothing line.  The Limited Line features hand-stitched clothing “patches” organic fabrics, with customizable options available at GreenShag on their clothing. SUITMAN SAMSARA -PUTTING HUMANITY BACK INTO THE EQUATION

This new financial revolution we are embarking on is about bringing a community together through art and changing social conditions on a financial and emotional level uniting both men and women to change the world.

Did we make an impact on the hearts and minds of the 1% that day?  We’ll have to wait and see. But for now, we can be proud to say we’ve made a difference in the hearts and pockets of the 99% and that’s where global oneness begins.

SUITMAN BIO

SUITMAN first came into the public eye in June 2011 in a mural that caused an uproar in the City. The mural, reported to have embedded Morse Code messaging, was hastily removed by City Officials, causing a outcry. Bending to public pressure, City It was just listed as one of five MUST-SEE murals in Toronto. Officials approved a second replacement mural, which some believe has similar messaging, deemed damaging to society. Similarly, a commissioned SUITMAN in the town of Catskill, New York, was unceremoniously removed, organizers claiming it incited racial tensions in the sleepy town. From there, a piece was confiscated in Moscow, placed in the Russian Archives of Political Art for safekeeping. Linked to Occupy Wall Street and underground activist groups, the controversial figure, despite growing popularity, remains elusive.
