Walk To End Canine Cancer Toronto

If you’re obsessed with your dog like I am, hearing the words “Your dog has cancer” would be devastating news.   She is my best friend and  I can’t imagine having to go through the nightmare of losing her to such a painful and deadly disease.   Statistics show that cancer can affect 1 in 4 dogs so when Kelly Rae Manis a successful local dog walker  said,

“I lost 7 of my clients dogs in 8 years to cancer, I had enough and wanted to do something about it”

She decided to create the first Walk To End Canine Cancer in Toronto, which will be taking place this Saturday at Kew Beach.

The walk is in association with the Smiling Blue Skies Cancer Fund OVC Pet Trust at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph with all the donations going towards the treatment and research of canine cancer.

When Kelly first mentioned she wanted to do this a few months ago, it seemed like a huge undertaking, but  with the support of her team of family, friends and strangers along the way she’s managed to raise awareness and almost $20,000 for the cause,  along with getting tons of great businesses to participate and sponsor the event.

Here is the  link to all the sponsors on board for the walk that have donated gift certificates to dinners, spa’s, booze,  sporting events, gift baskets and much more.  Check it out and you can bid on the silent auction items before and after the walk at the walk site.  Cash, cheque and Visa accepted.

If you’d like to make a donation online, go to the website, you will see a purple paw print alongside the phrase, “Join here.” Click on this, and you can join the walk as a “real” or “virtual” participant. People can also find walk participants on this page and donate to a specific person, to help meet their individual goal, or, people can DONATE DIRECTLY.

If your family or someone you know has lost their dog to cancer, show your support, spread the word,  lace up your sneaks, grab your 4 legged friends and come out to KEW BEACH THIS SATURDAY to help raise awareness  and cash and participate in the Walk To End Canine Cancer, along side infamous,  Storm the weather dog who is also supporting the cause!

When you see Kelly at the walk on Saturday, don’t forget to give her a high five for doing such a great job with this event!

I’m bringing my cute little Cujo,  who will be properly muzzeled and pumped full of arthritis med’s.

We may have the shittiest Mayor in history but at least we have people bringing communities together…making Toronto a better place to live!

Remember, it only takes one person to start a movement…an army WILL follow!
